Calidad de Sueño y Funciones Ejecutivas en adultos: una revisión sistemática considerando variables moderadoras y mediadoras

Résumé

El objetivo del presente estudio fue realizar una revisión sistemática de estudios empíricos sobre la relación entre la calidad del sueño (CS) y las funciones ejecutivas (FE), incluyendo el estudio de las variables moderadoras y mediadoras que podrían afectar la relación entre los constructos. Mediante una búsqueda en las bases de datos PubMed, Scopus, EBSCO y en Google Scholar se identificaron 37 artículos empíricos, siguiendo los lineamientos PRISMA. La mayoría de los estudios revisados (n=30) halló una relación entre las FE y la calidad de sueño. Para la evaluación de la calidad del sueño el Índice de Calidad del Sueño de Pittsburgh (PSQI) fue el instrumento de autoinforme más utilizado, complementado en algunos estudios con medidas objetivas (e.g., actígrafos). Para valorar las FE, los subtests de dígitos, el Trail Making Test (TMT), el Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) y las tareas de fluidez verbal fueron las tareas basadas en desempeño más empleadas. Finalmente, respecto del efecto de variables moderadoras o mediadoras en la relación entre los constructos, se observan algunas inconsistencias. Si bien los hallazgos disponibles no permiten establecer conclusiones definitivas, la evidencia analizada destaca el amplio rol de la moderación. Los moderadores clave incluyen factores demográficos como la edad y el sexo, factores psicológicos como la depresión subclínica y la interacción de la regularidad del sueño/estrés agudo y la actividad física, mientras que el estudio de la mediación se limitó a la relación entre el microbioma intestinal y las funciones cognitivas. Estos hallazgos sugieren que la relación entre la CS y las FE se caracteriza predominantemente por un modelo de moderación más que de mediación.
